Despite tight hamstrings, not being able to hold a tune, forgetting sequences and confusing left for right, Hanlie completed her 500hr Pranakriya Yoga Teacher certification under the inspirational care of master yogi Yoganand Michael Caroll in the tradition of Swami Kripalavandaji. Hanlie offers yoga as a meditative practice using movement and form as a catalyst for intelligent awareness and heartfelt discovery. "I have never understood violence and judging. In the broadest sense of the words. I grew up in a tiny village in the South of Holland and I strongly remember the racism I came across. I was shocked that people could judge others on something like race or color. We are all human beings, aren’t we?

I have traveled the world and I got the chance to meet so many different people. I just love to observe human beings and their behavior. And listen to their stories. There are so many stories in the world that want to be told. By listening to all these stories and having seen and felt all the twinkles, tears and fears I learned that it is not our story that determines who we are. If you see, hear and feel behind words, you will find the only universal truth: we are all one. And that is exactly the place I want the world to be. A world where everyone can come home.

"I started practicing Yoga almost four years ago and fell in love with it after my first class. After a year of practicing, one of my instructors encouraged me to do a Yoga Teachers Course, which I then did at YogaLife in Cape Town in 2014 and I've been teaching ever since the moment I graduated from the course. I have a background in Ballet, Highland, and Irish dancing where I competed at National and International Championship level. From dancing and training so much I had many injuries and yoga really helped me through those injuries and has shown me that not everything is a competition, it's important to listen to our bodies. With that being said, I like to focus my classes on integrating breath and movement with a mixture of standing postures and arm balances. I also like to focus on the awareness of the body while losing oneself within the practice and momentarily forgetting our rushed lives."
